Directing in Australia is both establishing itself and changing. Creating a dialogue about the art, function and form of directing will advance the understanding of this young craft. Professional directors and academics are invited to present a 20 minute paper to the conference. The paper would also then be considered for inclusion in the conference publication ‘Changing Direction’ to be published by Australian Scholarly Publishing.

Topics to consider:

  • Australian directing style
  • Director versus Playwright
  • The director’s changing craft
  • Interpreting the action
  • Preproduction
  • The actor and director
  • Creative team interaction
  • Collaborative drama.

Specifics
The length of the paper is 25 minutes including 5 minutes of questions. The only consideration you must have for subject matter is to include the broad theme of 'Changing Direction'. How the theme is interpreted is not important to your presentation, but the presentation must include an interpretation and address to the conference theme. This is vitally important to be included in the conference publication and also to ensure cohesion in conference presentations. No doubt your paper will in its initial stages be much longer than a 20 minute presentation. Keep a long version for consideration in the publication and also a 20 minute version for presentation.

Please register for the conference and then you will have access to the 'Submit Ideas' section which will enable you to submit a paper abstract or workshop idea. Deadline for submissions is 15 July 2006
