The Conference will be postponed to September 2009. This decision was taken due to the fact that no public funding was received for the Conference this year. Rhys Holden has also taken up a touring position which will mean he has to take some time out from managing the conference and sourcing private sponsorship. This postponement allows significant extra time for planning and development of the conference. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Lexi Sekuless, a student at the ANU, who will be assisting me to manage the development process this year and the conference next year. This is a great opportunity to get involved at a senior level with Australia’s greatest directors. Last year’s presenters included Aubrey Mellor (Director of NIDA) and John Sheedy (Director for Bell Shakespeare). Each of the seven State Managers (one for each state: NSW/ACT, VIC, TAS, SA, QLD, WA, NT) co-ordinates and develops interest in the Australian Theatre Directors’ Conference for their particular state. The State Managers work with the Artistic Director to develop and administer the marketing strategy, registrations, payments and event management of the Conference. The 2006 conference was a great success with over 100 participants. Thanks to all those who participated and made the inaugural conference a very exciting event. Plans are well under way for the 2008 conference. More information will be released in due course. Welcome to the inaugural Australian Theatre Directors Conference 2006 |

The Directors Conference is being hosted by the Australian National University on the 11th and 12th of September 2006. The conference aims to engage professional directors, aspiring directors and academics in dialogue and practical exercises about a range of issue faced in theatre practice.the conference also hopes to provide an opportunity for directors to network with their industry peers. |
